Rowan County Jail Roster

The jail roster of Rowan County, North Carolina, is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the local detention center. On the RowanCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data is available through the official Sheriff's Office online search tool, by phone, or during a personal visit to the detention center. The roster is maintained by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for the operation of the Detention Center. The data is updated regularly and reflects individuals who are in custody at the time of the request.

Search Current Inmates in Rowan Jail

There are several ways to check if a specific person is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center.

Online Search

  1. Visit RowanCourt.us to find publicly available court and arrest records related to the county.
  2. Use the P2C portal of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office — the official tool for viewing the inmate list. The portal allows you to view events from the agency's database.
  3. To search, prepare the person's full legal name (last name and first name) or booking number, if known.
  4. If the portal only supports list viewing without a search field, use the browser's Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) function to find the desired last name.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

By Phone

Call the detention center on the non-emergency line. The operator can confirm if the person is in custody if you provide the full name or date of birth.

Personal Visit

Visit the detention center lobby during business hours. The staff at the public information window will provide information about current inmates.

Find Rowan Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the detention center. It is the first document that records the fact of custody. During the booking procedure, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges presented
  • Agency that made the arrest (Sheriff's Office, Salisbury Police, etc.)
  • Basic identification data of the detainee

These records are available in several ways. The fastest is through the online roster on the sheriff's P2C portal. If extended or archival information is needed, submit a public records request according to the North Carolina Public Records Law. Court materials for criminal cases are also available through the state's court records obtaining portal.

If the person was transferred to the state system after arrest, check the Offender Search of the Department of Adult Correction (NC DAC).

Search the Rowan Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

In practice, the roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field or find it in the list. Adding a first name will narrow the results if the last name is common — for example, Smith or Johnson. A few tips:

  • Check spelling: one incorrect letter can hide the desired record.
  • Try spelling variations if the last name has a hyphen or apostrophe.
  • Some systems allow partial search — enter only the first few letters of the last name.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. It eliminates confusion with namesakes. Usually, this number is provided to relatives during the detainee's first call or can be obtained by calling the detention center.

If the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the name is entered correctly and try alternative spellings.
  2. The person may have already been released — the roster only reflects those currently in custody.
  3. There may be a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.
  4. Call the detention center directly to clarify the status.
  5. If the person was arrested by the Salisbury Police, they still go to the county detention center, but the record may appear with a delay.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Rowan

The inmate roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There is usually a delay between the booking and the appearance of the record on the P2C portal — from a few minutes to several hours depending on staff workload.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after arrest. A recently detained person may not yet appear in the online system until the booking procedure is completed.
  • Record disappearance after release. When an inmate is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term, their record is removed from the current roster.
  • Not an archive. The roster only shows those currently in custody. To access historical records, an official request must be submitted through the county public records page.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a name may be recorded incorrectly, complicating the search.

To check court cases related to an arrest, refer to the Rowan County page on the North Carolina Judicial Branch portal or use the eCourts system, which has been operational in all 100 counties of the state since October 2025.
